I am a Cedarville graduate of the class of 1957, the first four-year class from the "new" institution. I was the President of that class, and won the scholarship trophy in that year. Since my name begins with a "B" and not a "Z" I became technically the first graduate of that historic class. I was the first graduate of the "new" school to obtain a Ph. D. from a first-quadrant institution (first quadrant as in the USNWR rankings) and was a Dean's Scholar at that school which has produced more than a dozen Nobel Laureates. I was the first Chairman of the Language and Literature Division (yes, I actually preceded Ed Spencer in that post). I was Vice-President of the school's alumni association for a period during the 60's. I am the only faculty member to write an exam in any discipline for the largest testing organization in the world, The College Board. The 19th and 20th century segments of their Test of English Literature were done by me. I am the only graduate to have appeared as an expert witness in a legal case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and prevailed 8-0 (Urbana vs. Main). I sat in Dr. Jeremiah's classes, accompanied him on choir tours, attended scores of faculty meetings and hundreds of chapels led by him. In all that exposure I have no remembrance whatsoever of his ever espousing less than the "certainty" view. The first teacher of systematic theology at Cedarville was Paul Haist whom I had for that course. Not even a whisper of the uncertainty view. To say that the school's historic position has not changed is, I think, a decided untruth.
